Saudi Arabia: Festival of Reforms

The pursuit of social reforms is a key element of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 Initiative aimed at diversifying the country’s economy. At the heart of this Initiative lies an evolutionary social engineering effort to manage and regulate the future development of Saudi Arabia. In a remarkable shift from the norm, the oil-rich nation of Saudi Arabia is undergoing a social transformation of a kind never experienced in the country’s 93 years of existence. It is generally believed that this blending of Arabic and English languages is less about the dilution of the Saudi heritage and more about practical functionality in an increasingly globalized world.   The Saudi government, through the public-funded Custodial of the Two Holy Mosques scholarship program, supports Saudi nationals in various fields at international universities, to meet some of the goals of the Vision 2030 initiative. The scholarship often covers tuition and living expenses for graduates and postgraduate studies. Available data indicate that an estimated 70,000 ...
